Filling those nooks and crannies

According to the Owens Corning 2017 Brand Study prepared by Leger Marketing, respondents gave two top reasons for adding insulation to their home. Seventy-nine per cent desired an increase in energy efficiency, and 55 per cent did so to increase home comfort. With more than seven million under-insulated attics1 in Canada, this presents an outstanding opportunity for incremental sales. One of the most effective ways to achieve both savings and comfort is by topping up attic insulation with the AttiCat expanding blown-in insulation system from Owens Corning.

As a contractor, this is a simple and affordable add-on to any job you quote. Offer your customers coziness in the winter and coolness in the summer, plus up to 20 per cent2 in savings on their heating and cooling costs.

Pop into the attic with a ruler to measure the current depth of insulation. Owens Corning recommends R-60 or 22¼ inches of blown-in insulation for optimal comfort and savings. The handy online calculator lets you know just how many bags of insulation will be needed to complete the job. You will also need to ensure there is adequate attic ventilation – installing raft-R-mate® attic rafter vents can help. AttiCat® insulation can be blown-in on top of any existing insulation, and it only takes five minutes per bag.

The AttiCat machine comes in two pieces so it’s easy to transport. It features an integrated autocutter – simply cut a bag of insulation in half and feed one bag into the machine at a time.  The self-feeding, semi-automated system also includes a hose-mounted wireless remote that allows you to blow the product right where you want it. Install rulers throughout the attic to ensure you are achieving the correct, consistent depth of insulation. The fully enclosed blowing system emits little dust, and allows for expansion of the insulation within the machine. The insulation is further conditioned throughout the length of the hose. More and more air pockets are added as it bounces its way through the hose, ultimately increasing its insulating power. And best of all, the insulation has virtually no settling, which means it maintains its R-value over time. Because everything happens inside the machine and in the hose, the clean-up is quick and easy – allowing you to get the job done quickly.
