Insulated Concrete Forms – An Eco Solution

Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) continue to grow in popularity, due to both an increased focus on green building construction and tighter building code regulations relating to minimum required R-values. As a result, Amvic, one of Canada’s leading ICF producers, has continued to push innovation to stay ahead of market trends.

Amvic’s ICFs are stay-in-place, five-in-one concrete forming systems that incorporate structure, insulation, air/vapour barriers and finish attachments. It's a cost effective, resilient and environmentally friendly construction system. Amvic’s ICFs are revolutionizing modern construction and changing the way we build for a greener tomorrow.

The Standard 90 Degree XL Corners from Amvic join the rest of the ICF lineup as the strongest blocks in the industry, according to the Canadian Construction Materials Centre’s form capacity test. They also incorporate the FormLock™ interlocking system to ensure a tight and secure bond between the forms. These features virtually eliminate the chance of blowout while pouring concrete in the normally stressful corner, with six inches on centre cross tie spacing, providing greater strength without the need for glue or tape.

The monolithic reinforced concrete core makes for a much stronger structure when compared to framed construction. The combination of high-strength and fire-resistance ratings create superior resistance to both natural and man-made disasters. The ICF wall has minimal thermal bridging due to the dual layers of continuous insulation. A mixture of high-thermal resistance, air tightness and thermal mass reduces undesired air leakage and makes for a very energy-efficient building. Further, the ICFs do not lose their structural integrity when exposed to high-moisture environments. The addition of the concrete mass contributes to the highly sound-absorbent walls, giving occupants a quiet and comfortable interior. Additionally, wall components can be made from recycled materials, minimizing the impact on the environment through reduced raw material demand.

The patented Formlock interlock helps secure ICF blocks in place when stacking. This technology results in less taping, tying and gluing during installation and can withstand internal vibration, ensuring a structurally superior wall. Amvic’s ICF blocks are reversible, which maximizes the usage of the form and drastically increases job site efficiency. With ICF, contractors can pour year-round without the additional costs and materials when compared to traditional forming methods in winter months of construction. All Amvic products are designed to reduce installation time by over 30 per cent, allowing substantial cost savings to be passed on to the customer.

All Amvic products are quick and easy to use in multiple configurations, allowing them to be used in a wide range of applications. This means distinct features can be expedited during installation without requiring any specialized tools or loss of job quality. The product strength reduces damage and waste, thereby improving job site efficiency. In addition, it offers the flexibility to be installed in any weather condition. Amvic products are designed for maximum compatibility with subsequent building trades and reduces the need for any damage repair.
