More than simple moulding

Clean, modern lines continue to be the trend for interior mouldings in contemporary homes. But don’t confuse this with ordinary as homeowners look for stylish ways to customize and upgrade their spaces.

On the wall

Whether using on an accent wall, around the whole room or even on the ceiling, Alexandria Moulding’s ship lap adds dimension to bare walls. The primed fibreboard starts are available in eight-foot and 16-foot lengths with widths starting at 5-5/16-inches. With no glue required, installation is quick and easy.

Wainscoting adds a classic elegance to dining and living rooms. Flat, beaded or raised panels can be three feet or six feet high or even take up the full wall. Homeowners can also dress up rooms with chair rail and wall trim.

Above the door

Corners for doors and window moulding are often mitered on 45-degree angles. However, the alternative is to place a header across the top of the door or window in the craftsman style.

While this is based on the style of the home and personal preference, headers offer another simple option to improve a room using a combination of trim pieces, usually flat stock and crown mouldings. To reduce the time or effort to produce these headers, though, try Alexandria’s architrave profiles ranging in widths between three and six inches.

With some colour

All Alexandria fibreboard mouldings are double-primed with environmentally friendly water-based primers. They’re also profile-sanded and buffed to bring out the full smoothness of the look.

With wallpaper or paint, bold or neutral colours, mouldings are able to frame your space. Trim is often white or neutral, but wood trims can be stained and fibreboard can be painted dark. One recent trend is painting walls and trim in the same colour, whether you’re using a bold wall colour or not.

Mouldings are among the final tasks to complete a project. Standard profiles can be easily adapted or upgraded to make your clients’ builder-grade homes and basic renovations achieve a higher-end aesthetic. While the trend in mouldings is clean and simple lines, it is the attention to detail that will separate an average room from a great room that goes beyond ordinary.
